All You Need Is A Few Good Women — To Pose Nude

By Leah

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: when the cure for prostate cancer comes about, it will be the result of back-breaking work and dedication by whole a lot of good women.  Dr. Michael Glode, a urologic oncologist  and an absolute angel who writes a blog called “All Things Prostate,” apparently agrees with me — he cited one of my posts in support of this proposition. (See “Wives Unite”, http://ww.revolutionhealth.com/blogs/michaelglodemd/wives-unite-15743.)

Kudos to the ladies across the Hudson.    I know some people might find the whole idea of a nudie calendar offensive, but get over it, please.  We need to use “shock therapy” to get people to pay attention to prostate cancer.  There are so many colored ribbons around for different causes, people just ignore them!

Now I’m just waiting for the men’s calendar :-) )

“NJ Wives Pose Nude For Prostate Cancer Awareness”

BLAIRSTOWN, N.J. (CBS)

“Twelve New Jersey wives are making a bold move to raise awareness about a disease many men don’t like to discuss.

“They are sexy, in their sixties, and they’re taking it all off in a new calendar benefiting prostate cancer research. Their inspiration was the movie “Calendar Girls.”

“My mother never saw me in underwear. Here I am taking my clothes off in a boat,” said Sheila Rosko of Blairstown.

“We don’t feel like we’re 65. We’re young at heart,” added Marion Meyerhoff, of Edison.

“Stand By Your Man” is what the 2010 calendar is called because all of their husbands have struggled with prostate cancer.

“Women get so much attention with breast cancer and it’s wonderful and that’s how it ought to be; but men are shy, so we have to speak up and stand up for them,” said Nancy Malone of Jersey City.

“Rosko told CBS 2 her husband’s battle with the illness inspired her.

“When I met my husband he was the love of y life and I was devastated when he got prostate cancer. So I would do anything for him,” she said.

“Her husband beat the disease and so has Donna Almquist’s, who told CBS 2 the message is clear: “To get the word out that it’s there, it’s curable and help is available.”

“Almquist’s husband Bob is proud of his wife. “We have been through difficult times with prostate cancer and she wanted to do it for me,” he said.

“Meyerhoff’s husband Jerry was also happy to have his wife pose and thinks she looks fabulous. “It means a lot. The day the doctor very coldly said, ’Jerry, you have cancer,’ she was right there to support me,” he said.

“The calendars are $20 and the photos are tastefully shot by photographer Bob Carey, who said he shot the spread for free because his wife has battled breast cancer.

“The women will be out and about in Manhattan selling them. The supporting ladies, including Ms. June, who is in her 80s, have sold hundreds of calendars and have thousands more available. You can purchase one by clicking here.”

That’s very nice of these women!! I’m only 40 and my wife tells me everyday that she hopes I develop aggressive prostate cancer and kick off leaving her in peace. These women aren’t 1/2 bad.

    Mad.

  2. Goldenbuff says:

Sad thing is these women seem to be doing more for Prostate Cancer awareness than most men.

  3. Mike says:

Max, If I were you I think I would be considering the single life! I am 60 and my wife is considerably younger than me, but she has stood by and supported me through the entire process of learning I had prostate cancer, through my surgery and she was there every minute while I was in the hospital. She made my recovery as comfortable for me as she could, even though she was driving me crazy by constantly checking to see if I needed anything. To the Ladys that posed for the calendar, I will be ordering one as soon as the bills quit coming in from the prostate surgery. You go girls!!!!!!
